Restaurant: Lekkerr, Schoonhoven

image

Last week, I spent two days at my aunt who lives in Schoonhoven. Schoonhoven is a very cute town between Rotterdam and Utrecht. It is known for the silver that used to be made here a lot. In the city centre, you will find a lot of old buildings, mostly from around the year 1600. I absolutely love to see this, as you won’t find buildings like this in Rotterdam, because of what happened here in the Second World War. It gives Schoonhoven such a charming feel. I also really like the canal that runs right through the town. On one of the sides of the canal, restaurant Lekkerr is situated and my aunt, brother and sister in law and I decided to go there for dinner.

Restaurant: Sugo, Rotterdam

I absolutely love Italian food, it doesn’t matter what kind of food, but I just love how the flavors are combined in the Italian cuisine. Pizza is one of the things that is a real treat for me. I don’t eat it often, but when I do, I enjoy it to the maximum. That’s why I was so exited when I heard about the opening of Sugo in the Aaert van Nesstraat in my hometown Rotterdam. Sugo sells pizza slices, so no whole round pizza’s, making it easier to have to either have just one slice for lunch, or try multiple pizza’s for dinner!

Restaurant: My favorite coffee places in Rotterdam City Centre

image

When I go shopping in the city centre of Rotterdam, I almost always start early, like, I make sure to be there around 10 o’clock in the morning. This means I usually haven’t had any coffee yet. Since I started drinking coffee about two years ago, it has become kind of a habit to have one cup of latte or cappuccino in the morning. I don’t drink more coffee really, but I have gotten quite attached to my one cup of coffee. So whenever I go shopping I take a break at one of my favorite coffee places in the city centre. I sometimes choose the bigger ones everyone knows, like Hema, or LaPlace, but most of the time I’d rather visit a smaller and less crowded place. Here are some of my favorites, in no particular order:

Restaurant: Picknick Rotterdam

image

Picknick is another place I read so much about on other blogs and every review I read was so positive that I needed to check it out myself. I honestly didn’t know it was in the place it is (at the Mariniersweg), even though I live in Rotterdam and I walked past it probably countless times. Really bad, I know. But this time I walked inside! Lees verder

Restaurant: Elleniko, Markthal Rotterdam

image

My father opted to go out for dinner on my birthday and of course I had to choose a restaurant for this occasion. I figured I wanted to eat at a Greek restaurant at a nice location, so the first one that popped into my mind was Elleniko in the Markthal. I walked by a couple of times before and it looked so nice that I really wanted to try the food here. So off we went to the Markthal. If you make a reservation for dinner at Elleniko, you are being seated in the upstairs area, as they offer the restaurant menu there. In the downstairs area they serve a streetfood menu, which is more suited for a quick lunch or a break.

Restaurant: The Tea Lab, Rotterdam

image

While I was shopping for Sinterklaas presents in Rotterdam, I wanted to have something nice and warm to drink. As I had just passed by V&D, I was almost ready to turn around and grab a coffee or tea there as a template of The Tea Lab caught my eye. It pointed in the direction of where it was located, which is just around the corner from V&D. I figured I might give it a try, as I never heard of it before.

Restaurant: de Frietwinkel, Utrecht

image

As you might have read in this post, I visited Utrecht last week. After some shopping, I needed to have lunch somewhere and the first place that popped into my mind was de Frietwinkel. Not that strange if you know it is in the same street as Yoghurt Barn and I passed it on my way to there in the morning.

Restaurant: Yoghurt Barn, Utrecht

image

Finally I went to Utrecht this week, which meant I could finally visit Yoghurt Barn! Hooray! I had read so much positive reviews about this place (it is the officialy awarded as the nicest restaurant in Utrecht) and I had seen so many great photos through Instagram, that Yoghurt Barn was definetely one of the places I wanted to visit. So when the day arrived  of my visit to Utrecht, I especially skipped breakfast (which is something I never do, can’t start the day without eating first) so I could have it there.

Restaurant: Proef, Scheveningen

Last week I went to one of the try-outs of Billy Elliot the Musical. It was a musical I had been dying to see, so as soon as I knew tickets were available, I asked my friend if she would like to go as well and we ordered the tickets! There are multiple children from my dance studio in this show, but unfortunately none of them was playing this night. Lucky for me, I did know two other dancers on stage who I was performing in the Nutcracker with last year! The show was amazing, even better than I expected, especially the dancing of course.

Before the musical, my friend and I needed to have dinner, so we decided to go and eat at the boulevard next to the beach. Scheveningen is next to the Noordzee and there is a nice boulevard there with lots of restaurants. As it isn’t quite the beach season right now, not all of the restaurants were open. We did manage to find one with a promising  menu, called ‘Proef’. It looked like a cozy restaurant with fires to sit by outside. Inside, it was quite dark, but with a nice atmosphere.

Restaurant: Lof der Zoetheid, Rotterdam

image

Lof der Zoetheid was on my wishlist to visit for literally years already. I discovered this place when I went to visit Kookpunt for the first time with my parents. We had been in this amazing shop for a couple of hours and afterwards we wanted to go and have lunch somewhere. Next to Kookpunt, on the corner of the block was Lof der Zoetheid. As we looked inside, we noticed the place was crammed full! There was no room for us to sit, so we didn’t go for lunch there we but at home instead. As we  never heard of it before we wondered what was so special about Lof der Zoetheid. So at home I looked it up on the internet and I found the most wonderful reviews. I found out that especially their cakes, lunches and high teas were incredible. Then I knew I had to go there at least once!
