I have a weakness for anything that has Oreo in it. It doesn’t matter if it is in a cake, milkshake, chocolate, dessert or just on its’ own. There is just something about the combination of the dark, chocolate cookies and the vanilla layer inbetween the cookies that is perfect! Sweet, but not too sweet, crunchy and soft at the same time. So when I heard about this Magnum-like Oreo icecream, I had to get my hands on it. Because, well, icecream is one of my other weaknesses (yep, I am indeed a massive sweettooth) and what could be better than combining the two? It took me a couple of months to find them unfortunately. I almost feared they wouldn’t make it to my local Albert Heijn, but then, all of a sudden, they were there! There was only one box left actually, which I took home with me of course.
For me, breakfast is very important. I believe a healthy breakfast gets your body started and gets the brain fueled as well. This is why I always take the time in the morning to have a decent breakfast (and because I simply wake up hungry). Personally, I love oatmeal for breakfast, because you can flavor it with loads of things and you can add almost everything as a topping. Usually I put any kind of fruit on top and sometimes extras like nuts or chocolate. Lately I discovered something new in my local Albert Heijn, called ‘Tijd voor Ontbijt‘. Tijd voor Ontbijt sells different kinds of mixes with nuts, dried fruit and superfoods to add to your yoghurt, muesli, or in my case oatmeal.
When I was a child I was always looking forward to the period before Easter, because that would be the time of the Easter eggs. My parents would usually get a bag of these chocolate eggs in shimmery foil with loads of colors. At that time, most of the eggs were made of solid dark, milk or white chocolate and on a rare occasion you would find some filled with praline or hazelnut. Things sure have changed since then. Nowadays you can buy Easter eggs with filled with everything you can imagine. One of my favorite candy stores, Jamin, even sells 40 different flavors! And they add new flavors every year, how cool is that? This was beyond my imagination and I decided to test 15 of the most appealing and creative flavors.
Because I travel by train every week, I regularly visit an Albert Heijn To Go at one of the trainstations I pass by. I often check the aisles for new items as they tend to appear first in the Albert Heijn To Go stores before being adopted into the stock of the regular stores. It is almost like in a concept store: the products are given a test: if they are sold often enough, then they will go mainstream. This happend for example with the Spelt twister, quinoa salad and the sushi. This time I discovered something interesting again: two new muffins made with 100% spelt flour. It is so great they offer more and more options for people with allergies or who have a certain food ideology!
I love to read blogs from other foodbloggers as there is so much inspiration to be found on them to bake and cook. I often find the best recipes there. One of my absolute favorites is Uit Pauline’s Keuken. She has one of the most clean looking blogs with recipes of any kind. Most of the recipes are on the healthier side, as she also wrote the Voedselzandloper cookbook, but she also shares recipes you can really indulge on. I discovered Pauline’s blog when I was looking for a recipe for sweet potato fries. After that, I have made numerous from her recipes, so when I heard about her upcoming book, I definetely wanted to have it. I just knew there would be a lot of recipes in there that I would love to make!
I saw an ad about the new limited edition Snickers with hazelnuts and as a vivid candybar and hazelnut lover, this was not something I could ignore. So after work, I was strolling through my local Albert Heijn in search of the Snickers, but before I found them, something else caught my eye: a limited edition dark chocolate Kinder Bueno! As I love dark chocolate more than any other kind of chocolate, there was no other option than taking this Kinder Bueno home with me as well. So there I was, on the couch with two different limited edition candybars, trying to decide which one I would taste first. A tough job, I can tell you that! After like, 10 minutes, the dark chocolate Kinder Bueno won. Lees verder
Do you think regular jam holds too much sugar? Then you should try this new alternative called ‘Chia loves fruit’ from Mister Kitchen. In this jam, a great amount of sugar has been replaced by chia seeds. To be exact, Chia loves fruit contains 65% less sugar than regular jam. The chia seeds take care of the binding of the fruit, without extra sugar or gelatin and they add a little bite as well. Stevia is used to make it a little sweeter.
There are 3 different flavors: blueberry – cranberry, apricot – orange and strawberry. I tried the strawberry flavor this time, because I thought this flavor would be easiest to compare with the other jams I know. Lees verder
