Review: Tijd voor Ontbijt

image

For me, breakfast is very important. I believe a healthy breakfast gets your body started and gets the brain fueled as well. This is why I always take the time in the morning to have a decent breakfast (and because I simply wake up hungry). Personally, I love oatmeal for breakfast, because you can flavor it with loads of things and you can add almost everything as a topping. Usually I put any kind of fruit on top and sometimes extras like nuts or chocolate. Lately I discovered something new in my local Albert Heijn, called ‘Tijd voor Ontbijt‘. Tijd voor Ontbijt sells different kinds of mixes with nuts, dried fruit and superfoods to add to your yoghurt, muesli, or in my case oatmeal.

Review: Spelt muffin from Albert Heijn To Go

image

Because I travel by train every week, I regularly visit an Albert Heijn To Go at one of the trainstations I pass by. I often check the aisles for new items as they tend to appear first in the Albert Heijn To Go stores before being adopted into the stock of the regular stores. It is almost like in a concept store: the products are given a test: if they are sold often enough, then they will go mainstream. This happend for example with the Spelt twister, quinoa salad and the sushi. This time I discovered something interesting again: two new muffins made with 100% spelt flour. It is so great they offer more and more options for people with allergies or who have a certain food ideology!

Review: Spelt oliebollen from Albert Heijn

image

After the holidays I finally have some time to write a blogpost again! It has been wonderful, but I was way too busy cooking and entertaining my family to write a new post. So today I am picking up blogging again.

As it is New Years’ Eve tonight it is time to have some oliebollen. For the non-Dutch reader: oliebollen are eaten traditionally at this day. They are basically balls of dough that are fried in sunflower oil. They are mostly eaten plain, with nothing in it, or with raisins. Many families have a tradition of baking their own oliebollen, but fortunately you can buy them at one of the many oliebollen stands that pop up in december or at every bakery and supermarket.

Review: Gyoza from Albert Heijn

image

Today I noticed some new products at my Albert Heijn: there is a new line of pre-made Asian snacks that you only need to heat either in the oven or in the microwave at home. They sold bapao for a long time already, but now there are things like yakitori, spring rolls, dimsum and gyoza as well. I love all of the steamed Asian goodies, so the different dimsum snacks and the gyoza immediately grabbed my attention. As I never tried gyoza before, I wanted to try this one first.

Review: Mozzarella salad from Albert Heijn and Lidl

image

When I need to teach dance classes, I often have to have dinner inbetween classes at the dance studio. Of course, I don’t want to have a heavy meal when I still have to dance for hours straight after eating, so often I will eat a salad. For me variation is the key to enjoying my meals, so sometimes, when I have enough time, I make my own salad. On other days I am even lucky to have time to run into the supermarket, so then I will buy a premade salad. I think it’s fair to say that I have tried all of the salads Albert Heijn and Lidl (the supermarkets near me) offer.

One of my favorites is still the salad with pasta, mozzarella, tomatoes and balsamic dressing. As it happens, both Albert Heijn and Lidl sell this salad, with what seems like almost exactly the same ingredients. I decided to compare them, to see if there was a difference.

Review: Take-away Coffees at Rotterdam Central Station

Take-away coffees Rotterdam Central StationWhen I travel to work, I have to change trains at Rotterdam Central Station. I have about 10 minutes to go from one train to another (and sometimes longer when one of the trains is delayed) and after doing this for a couple of years now, I have learned how to get to the train on time and get myself some take-away coffee. There are many places at Rotterdam Central Station where you can get your dose of coffee and I decided to compare all of them.

Because I do drink coffee, but I only like coffee with a large amount of milk, I chose either ‘Koffie Verkeerd’ (coffee with a lot of milk and often no foam) or a Latte at every occasion.

Review: Spelt Twister AH To Go

AHToGo Spelt twister review

Albert Heijn To Go at the trainstations is one of my favorite places to grab some quick sandwich or any other bread-like thing when I’m travelling by train. The have a large variety of premade sandwiches, buns without anything on it, ready to eat savoury snacks and sweet things such as croissants and cookies. Lately, the To Go concept has been revamped with a change in the products they stock. There is a lot more food that would be considered by many people as the healthier option. For example, there is a lot more organic (even raw) stuff, more fruit, and more traditional products where ingredients have been substituted by healthier options.
