Background: How can you fit in fastfood in a healthy lifestyle?

Of course we all know most of the food at fastfood chains cannot be described as healthy and it doesn’t fit into a healthy lifestyle. Most of the times it contains a lot of fat, sugar or salt and a lot of calories because of that. And yet many of us do sometimes go to fastfood chains and grab something to eat there. Personally I believe it is fine to do this every once in a while on special occasions, like a day out with friends or family or when you are returning from vacation, but not on a regular basis. Once a month is even too much for me. But I think you should be able to eat healthy and go and have a hamburger sometimes. I must admit I do like it when I go out to eat fastfood, it feels like a special treat because I almost never do this!

Background: Dragonfruit or Pitaya

Pitaya or Dragonfruit dessertRecently I learned about this beautiful and a bit bizarre looking fruit called Dragonfruit or Pitaya. It is the fruit of several cactus species. They can weigh anywhere from 150 to 600 grams. On the outside it is a bright pink with green tips on the leaves or scales. On the inside it is white (there is a pink species as well) with a massive amount of black seeds.

Background: ‘New’ grains and seeds

In the last couple of years, more attention has been drawn to grains and seeds that can be used instead of the more well known rice and wheat. With names like Freekeh and Kamut, they all sound exotic, but they start to become more and more available in regular stores. Most of these grains and seeds are less refined and less processed and thus they are perceived to be a healthy option. Most of them contain more fibers and protein. But what are they exactly and how do you use them?

Background: Superfoods: are they that super and if they are, what is super about them?

Superfood

Superfoods seem to be the food hype that is currently going on. A lot of people added these food items to their diet in the last few years. You can buy them everywhere now, even at stores that normally don’t sell groceries, but they are quite expensive. Are they worth their price? Are they really that beneficial to your body or is it all just a marketing trick to make people buy these products. Do you really need to add them to your diet or are the regular healthy food items enough. I did some research on the internet about this and I would like to share my findings with you.
