For me, breakfast is very important. I believe a healthy breakfast gets your body started and gets the brain fueled as well. This is why I always take the time in the morning to have a decent breakfast (and because I simply wake up hungry). Personally, I love oatmeal for breakfast, because you can flavor it with loads of things and you can add almost everything as a topping. Usually I put any kind of fruit on top and sometimes extras like nuts or chocolate. Lately I discovered something new in my local Albert Heijn, called ‘Tijd voor Ontbijt‘. Tijd voor Ontbijt sells different kinds of mixes with nuts, dried fruit and superfoods to add to your yoghurt, muesli, or in my case oatmeal.
Do you think regular jam holds too much sugar? Then you should try this new alternative called ‘Chia loves fruit’ from Mister Kitchen. In this jam, a great amount of sugar has been replaced by chia seeds. To be exact, Chia loves fruit contains 65% less sugar than regular jam. The chia seeds take care of the binding of the fruit, without extra sugar or gelatin and they add a little bite as well. Stevia is used to make it a little sweeter.
There are 3 different flavors: blueberry – cranberry, apricot – orange and strawberry. I tried the strawberry flavor this time, because I thought this flavor would be easiest to compare with the other jams I know. Lees verder
Ever since I had pancakes for breakfast at the Ontbijtbar I have the craving for pancakes in the morning every now and then. They are the perfect treat on days when you need a comforting start of your day. But, and this is kind of a big but, I am trying not to eat sugar at my breakfast (and lunch and dinner) because I was experiencing severe drops in my blood sugar dring the day when I ate sugar in every meal or snack. By taking less sugar, this went away almost completely. So regular pancakes for breakfast were not an option. Lees verder

Finally I went to Utrecht this week, which meant I could finally visit Yoghurt Barn! Hooray! I had read so much positive reviews about this place (it is the officialy awarded as the nicest restaurant in Utrecht) and I had seen so many great photos through Instagram, that Yoghurt Barn was definetely one of the places I wanted to visit. So when the day arrived of my visit to Utrecht, I especially skipped breakfast (which is something I never do, can’t start the day without eating first) so I could have it there.
Today I had a tiny breakfast problem: I ran out of oatmeal! Instead of only having some fruit, I decided to go out for breakfast once. After a bit of research, I found this place called: ‘Vlaamsch Broodhuys’, a bakery that has a kind of lunchroom inside as well. They have two locations in Rotterdam: one at the Meent and one at the Nieuwe Binnenweg, the one I went to (because I could combine it with a visit to Koekela ). There are also locations in other cities, so check their website to see if there is one near you.
I’m seeing the most amazing photos of jaw dropping breakfast bowls with uncountable kinds of ingredients on Instagram every day. A lot of different fruits, nuts, superfoods, sprinkles, colors and whatnot are added in these breakfasts. Everything is perfectly cut and nicely shape and arranged in layers and patterns.The pictures alone are mouthwatering pieces of art. But realisticly, as much as I want it to, my breakfast almost never looks as great, not even close (even while it has the same ingredients sometimes). Simply because I don’t have the time to cut fruit in a creative way, or puff some rice or amaranth every day. And if it is very early, I don’t even care how my oatmeal looks, as long as it tastes goodThis is why I decided to share 10 of my regular, ready in 2 minutes oatmeal and fruit breakfasts. Some still look ok, others plain boring, but most important is how they tasted. I really liked all of these combinations.
