On the weekends, I always like to make something special for dinner. Last week, my brother and I decided to cook something together for our parents and as we were browsing through recipes we found a picture of a pie made of pasta. What could be more appropriate, considering my blog name, than making a pasta pie? I thought it was the most perfect thing and since we all like pasta bolognese it was a good choice for all of us. And anything is better when it is in a pie shape right? It is that fun twist on your regular pasta dish that makes it more of a special dinner. To go with it we made lovely chicken meatballs and a rocket salad. Lees verder
When I need to teach dance classes, I often have to have dinner inbetween classes at the dance studio. Of course, I don’t want to have a heavy meal when I still have to dance for hours straight after eating, so often I will eat a salad. For me variation is the key to enjoying my meals, so sometimes, when I have enough time, I make my own salad. On other days I am even lucky to have time to run into the supermarket, so then I will buy a premade salad. I think it’s fair to say that I have tried all of the salads Albert Heijn and Lidl (the supermarkets near me) offer.
One of my favorites is still the salad with pasta, mozzarella, tomatoes and balsamic dressing. As it happens, both Albert Heijn and Lidl sell this salad, with what seems like almost exactly the same ingredients. I decided to compare them, to see if there was a difference.
I had been looking forward to this ever since it was announced that Rotterdam would get its’ own Markthal: an indoor foodmarket filled with food stores and stands where you could get anything you would want on food products. This would have to become a foodlovers’ dream! So after years of watching the building being created and following the news about it, last week the Markthal was finally officially opened. Queen Maxima did the opening ceremony and when I saw this being broadcasted on tv, I knew I had to visit the Markthal very soon. Fortunately, I live in Rotterdam and when I go to one of my jobs, I have to switch trains at the station next to it. Frequent visits guaranteed, especially since it is open 7 days a week! So I went there only little a week after to see it for myself.
I always like pasta salads, as this is a quick and easy meal option that is still healthy and fresh. I often get a premade pasta salad from Albert Heijn when I need to have my dinner at the dance studio. They are quite nice, but I figured I could make them myself as well. So I got the following ingredients:
Because it was my mothers’ birthday, my parents and I wanted to go out for dinner. We were looking online for a place where we could remain seated, so no buffet or something like that. The menu of Humphrey’s caught my eye, because they had a 3-course dinner for 25,95 euros but there were a lot of different options for each course. Since we all like very different kinds of food, this would be the perfect option for us. The location at the Binnenrotte is a very central location, near the Rotterdam subway station Blaak.
