Review: Spelt muffin from Albert Heijn To Go

image

Because I travel by train every week, I regularly visit an Albert Heijn To Go at one of the trainstations I pass by. I often check the aisles for new items as they tend to appear first in the Albert Heijn To Go stores before being adopted into the stock of the regular stores. It is almost like in a concept store: the products are given a test: if they are sold often enough, then they will go mainstream. This happend for example with the Spelt twister, quinoa salad and the sushi. This time I discovered something interesting again: two new muffins made with 100% spelt flour. It is so great they offer more and more options for people with allergies or who have a certain food ideology!

Review: Crispy Crisps fruit chips from Action

image

I always love to go to stores like Action and Xenos every once in a while, because they sell a little bit of everything, have different products from time to time and they are not expensive at all. This time I had a little bit of time between dance classes and since there is an Action store around the corner of the dance studio that’s where I went to.

There was not much I wanted to buy this time, except for one thing: fruit chips. There are portion sized packs in three different kinds of freeze dried fruit: apple, pear and peach. I am always on the lookout for interesting healthy snacks, so of course I had to try these. I figured they would make a nice substitution for regular potato chips. I bought only the apple and pear, but after trying them I wished I had bought the peach as well. Lees verder

Review: Mars Caramel limited edition

image

I love Mars candybars,Β because I love the caramel that’s inside, so when I saw in my locale Albert Heijn there was a limited edition Mars filled with 100% caramel I just had to try it. I admit, I am a caramel addict. If a product has the word caramel in the name it instantly attracts me. So I got a five-pack (five times yummyness as) and took it home with me.

Review: Gyoza from Albert Heijn

image

Today I noticed some new products at my Albert Heijn: there is a new line of pre-made Asian snacks that you only need to heat either in the oven or in the microwave at home. They sold bapao for a long time already, but now there are things like yakitori, spring rolls, dimsum and gyoza as well. I love all of the steamed Asian goodies, so the different dimsum snacks and the gyoza immediately grabbed my attention. As I never tried gyoza before, I wanted to try this one first.

Recipe: Cashew-date balls

image

I have seen so many recipes for this thing called ‘bliss balls’ (quite a strange name if you ask me). I do like the idea of making something healthy and sweet, as I am a sweet-tooth but at the same time I am conscious of what I eat and I don’t always want to stuff my body with a truckload of sugar. As I do this often enough with all the baking I do, I felt I could use some balance. So i looked up healthy snacks and this ‘bliss balls’ thing came up very frequently. Most of the times they involved oats or almonds, but that was not quite what i had on my mind. I wanted to try something else and because I always love cashews I decided to put them in the mix. I know cashews are not the healthiest nuts I could choose, but as this would still be a snack, I figured this was okay.

Recipe: Roasted chickpeas with honey and cinnamon

Roated chickpeas with honey and cinnamon

I am always on the lookout for new things to snack on, especially healthy snacks. I had read about roasted chickpeas a couple of times and I had pinned some recipes on Pinterest months ago already. Chickpeas are very healthy and low in calories. They become crunchy when you roast them in the oven, so it is a perfect snack when you are craving something crunchy. With chili or parmesan seemed very tasty, but I wanted to try a sweet version first, so today I made a batch of honey cinnamon chickpeas. I only made a very tiny can, because I didn’t know if I would like it (which I deeply regret now, as you might understand).
