When I need to teach dance classes, I often have to have dinner inbetween classes at the dance studio. Of course, I don’t want to have a heavy meal when I still have to dance for hours straight after eating, so often I will eat a salad. For me variation is the key to enjoying my meals, so sometimes, when I have enough time, I make my own salad. On other days I am even lucky to have time to run into the supermarket, so then I will buy a premade salad. I think it’s fair to say that I have tried all of the salads Albert Heijn and Lidl (the supermarkets near me) offer.
One of my favorites is still the salad with pasta, mozzarella, tomatoes and balsamic dressing. As it happens, both Albert Heijn and Lidl sell this salad, with what seems like almost exactly the same ingredients. I decided to compare them, to see if there was a difference.
This is a recipe I learned from my mother. She made it when my brother and I were little and as I got older and got into the kitchen more, she passed on the recipe to me. Basically it is a pizza that covers your entire baking tray. And in our case, you can feed 5 to 6 people with it. It makes a great dinner for the entire family! I always make sections for everyone who is eating it with their preferred toppings on it. It is a great recipe for some quality time evening.
The true pizza purists might not like
this version, as it doesn’t have a real pizza crust, but bread instead and I use ketchup for the sauce, which is not done in Italy of course. This pizza is not super healthy, but still healthier than the take-away or frozen pizza’s from the supermarket.
Today I went to a family barbecue and they had a lot of ingredients you could use to dress your own burger. They also had tzatziki to put on your bread, but it inspired me to create a tzatziki burger.
This couscous salad is one of the easiest dinners to make in the summer It’s light, fresh and full of taste. There is only little preparation involved, just some cutting of the vegetables, steaming the couscous and then mixing it all and it is very convenient to make for a dinner for one.
